Ok, so here we have it. This is the side yard of my house and it needs help. We have started to remove some of the shrubbery away from the fence, and wow !! the yard has expanded. The reason we are doing this is because it NEEDS it, not really, we just didn't want to weed anymore. We are trying to make it easier to maintain for when we get older. So, why not start now. This is what we want...... We want a cleaner look with less maintenance. Is that possible? Will, if any of you have ideas please send them our way. OH, did I mention this needs to be dog durable ?

Being the adventurous dog that Scoop is, he recently returned from a camping trip to beautiful Lake Sabrina. Of course as luck would have it, Scoop found this incredible vintage RV that belonged to the camp host. As the story goes the camp host and his wife sold their home 20 years ago, bought this fabulous RV and having been camping and hosting around the state park system. Now thats an adventurous couple !!

I love when I remember to bring my camera to Country Roads Antiques in Old Town Orange. I have been a dealer there for about 12 years now and it always amazes me what GREAT stuff they have and.... all the inspiration you can derive from one place. Case in point, while out shopping I met a new friend and she asked where I sold my wares at, well I gladly told her and she said that is one of her "favorite" stores and that she always goes there for "inspiration". I usually don't expect to see something like this in my backyard, however the other morning Scoop was anxious to go outside so I let him out and he ran straight to the corner of our yard, oh he's chasing a cat up the tree? NO....thats not a cat, it's a raccoon !

First, make sure the raccoon is safe. Second, go get my camera. After I took the photo I gathered Scoop up and inside the house we went. I watched from a distance as the raccoon climbed back down the tree onto the fence and scurried away.

Longing for Longabergers

I discovered Longaberger baskets about 12 years ago while on a buying trip in Ohio, since then, when ever I see them I snap them up. They are extremely well built and will last you a life time. I have several in my personal collection AND...........I have several that will be making there way into Country Roads Antiques.

Well, whatever the correct name is, I introduced this fine activity to my 8 year old nephew.

So, do you think he liked it? it looks like he is having a fun time!

I think some of the toys that have been around since my childhood are some of the best. I believe these toys need to be re-introduced to the newer generations. Hum.....maybe I will find some stilts or a pogo stick. We had tons of fun on these when we were growing up and one of the best things about these toys today is that they get you moving and out of the house!! What a concept......

While scanning through my photos for inspiration, I came across this shot that I had taken a while back. This was taken on a super hot day up in LA County somewhere. I honestly thought I was going to pass out from the heat, luckily I did not. But this was a field trip that my husband and I embarked on to see my niece. Of course there are no photos of her in this post, probably because I was captivated by the allure of the Rodeo.

and the excitement of barrel racing. I honestly believe that I was probably a cowgirl in a past life. The "cowboy"way of life has always intrigued me, as does the "cowboy".

When I have the time, and lately I have not. I enjoy creating. These are just 3 of the many bottles that grace my home. The first time I created a sea horse bottle was a little bitter sweet. Here is how the story goes. I was bringing in my collection of recenlty created bottles from my workshop and I was laying them on the carpet to view my handiwork. For some reason I had left the room, the next thing I hear is crunch, crunch, crunch and my adorable little puppy had decided that the sea horses head was delicious. Needless to say...I have a head-less sea horse on one of my shelves!!

I hope you will enjoy reading about a fun new way of showcasing photos that I discovered recently when I spoke with Amy Meissner, co-owner of http://www.k9collage.com/ Amy, what is the primary product offered by K9 Collage and how is it different from just taking a few photos and putting them together in a frame and calling it a collage?

K9 Collage offers a unique way to display a large amount of pictures in one setting. What we create is called a photo mosaic, and is a collection of photos arranged in a way that when viewed from a distance they resemble an overall picture. It differs from the traditional collage of where you might only have a few photos arranged on a page. Our photo mosiacs look like one photo from a distance, yet as you approach it you see that it is made up of hundreds of photos.

Could you explain to our readers a bit more?Yes, a photo mosaic focuses on one main picture (the main background image) which is made up of lots of little pictures (the tile photos). The tile photos can be any photos you choose.
So as an example, you would pick your main image; in this example we’ll use a photo of Scoop at the beach. This is now set as the main background image. Then you would upload anywhere from 36 to 500 tile photos of your choosing. Most customers upload anywhere from 50 to 75 photos. These can be anything, but most likely you would probably pick photos that go along with your main image. Once you have completed uploading all of your tile photos you simply submit your mosaic for processing and we take over from there.

This seems like a really unique thing to do to preserve the memory of a special pet, or as a special gift for a friend.
Yes, it is a beautiful way to preserve a memory. A photo mosaic makes a unique and personalized statement and can be used in a variety of ways to mark an occasion such as capturing your dog's final championship points in conformation, an awesome agility run or a day at the beach. Photo mosaics are nice for capturing everyday moments too. They make a great impression and are a fun conversation piece.
So will we be able to see all the photos in the finished product?
Yes, that’s the beauty of this, when you look up close you will see all the tile photos you submitted stitched together.

When you take a few steps back you will see the one image that you chose as your main background image. As an example I've attached a small area of the mosaic we created of Scoop. This is what you would see when looking at the mosaic up close. Although this mosaic is made up of more than 2500 tiles, it was created using only 79 unique photos. They were duplicated in different areas on the main background image in order to fill in the whole image.

Is the process very simple and easy? YES! After you register with us, it is as easy as uploading your photos and clicking submit.

What sizes are the finished prints and could you give an idea about price ranges?There is NO CHARGE to create a mosaic. The best part about this post is that it features one of my favorite colors, RED! I gathered some of my treasured items to bring into Country Roads this week. Take a look at those killer metal star burst candle sticks about 2' tall and full of WOW!, nice red down filled pillows and a wonderful crusty heavy iron urn.

And then there is my collection of tole trays that once graced a wall in my house. I am just loving how rich my space looks right now! Instead of hitting the traditional malls on 'Black Friday' head on over to Country Roads Antiques for some interesting and unique finds.

R is for ..... I purchased these really cool, big (like 2') metal letters a while back. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them because they were random letters. I considered putting mirror behind the O's and then today inspiration hit. I can spell ROOM.

So up they went. Not sure if I like them yet? Not sure if hubby will like them. It is hard going from a blank wall to something this powerful. I guess I will live with them for awhile. Day 2 of my Northern California adventure. After the Renegade Craft Fair on Saturday I went to my NoCal home and rested up for my next adventure. Sunday morning I had to get up early to make the drive and be at the gate of the Alameda flea Market at 6:00am. I enjoy early bird shopping, although it cost more in admission fee and less sleep it is worth it, less crowds and great parking. So here we are and what do I see as I enter the gates? a die hard seller being towed into his space! Of course I had to STOP in my tracks and take a photo.

Renegade Craft Fair

I headed up to Northern California this weekend to do some shopping. On Saturday I attended the Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco. Let me just tell you that this place was packed with over 200 Artists and lots to see. The best thing that happened is that we arrived about 30 minutes early, got a great parking place and to our surprise the doors were open and we didn't have to wait in a big long line to get in. Oh, THANK YOU!!

I purchased a 'Grab and Go' as I like to call it. It's a little clutch that I plan on using when I do not want to carry a lot. This is just a small sampling of what Alison offered.

and than as I was sitting in the passenger seat on the way home, I started to play with my new purchase and guess what? it holds my point and shoot camera, wow! an unexpected surprise!

and it also holds my blackberry, how totally cool. I originally purchased this as a little money and ID holder but now it does more. Now I am kicking myself for not buying the little 'Grab and Go' that had loops on the back side to thread through a belt (how clever).

New Dealer or New Look?

As you enter the front doors at CR you will notice a booth on the right that has a totally new and inviting look. Is this a new dealer, one person asked me this morning? WOW!

I take that as a compliment. For the past two days, with several long breaks in between I have been tranforming my space.

It was time to step up my game.

And so I did.....I started with hanging burlap on the walls, this instantly warmed the space up and added a wonderful textural element. I then started to fill in with my large peices and then added the wall art and accessories.

I think that you will agree, my game is right on. I am very proud of the outcome of my space. I hope to see you at Country Roads Antiques.

Alaskan Adventure

A sneak peak at what I have been up to. For the past week I have been enjoying a different type of weather and it has been most enjoyable!

My hubby and I flew up to the Denver Glacier by helicopter and went dog mushing.

I am actually mushing the team in this photo and obviously I wasn't going that fast if I was able to take a photo and keep my balance?. Wait, now that I think about it I hadn't left camp yet, I was just standing on my sled, duh!. However when I did get going it was totally exhilarating! (maybe a new hobby?)

Nothing like being thousands of feet up on a Alaskan Glacier and seeing the American flag. What an adventure.

Incredible vintage leather trunks with interior trays, may I say these are just really cool, one is monogramed and it has it's original protective canvas cover that I tucked neatly inside, can you say WOW!

Recently my dog Scoop found this little bluebird wandering aimlessly in the yard. He decided to befriend it, and as you can see they have grown quite close.
Where did this little bluebird come from? It remains a mystery....

Laundry room blues?

Nope, not at my house! As you can see below, when you enter my Laundry room you are entering an antique filled paradise that only brings smiles. You forget about the chore of laundry and you get lost in all of the wonderment.

Shelves to house my vintage linen collection. This is just a fraction of what I have.

And then we move on to my FAVORITE red cabinet. I recieved this as a gift from my parents back in 1994. What a fabulous Christmas that was....This peice is one of my all time favorites, and when I see it I just sigh.......

Another beautiful sunny Southern California day. Perfect weather for a pool party!! However, not the kind of pool party you were probably thinking about, this pool party is for the pups, 6 of them to be exact. We all had a good time, humans included.

Have you ever seen a dog jump or rather launch herself off the decking into a pool like this? She's got air!

OMG, I knew I had to have this when I saw it, or at least I knew my hubby would want this when he saw it and so be it! Today while at the 'store', Country Roads to be exact, out of the corner of my eye I spotted this fantastic creature. This large tortoise is made out of cast aluminum and is just incredible! We could hardly get him in the car fast enough, we knew just where he was going to sit in our yard, right on the pools edge.

My shopping advice for today... when you see something you like, GET IT, because it just might not be there when you go back. Happy Hunting.

Fruity Friday

One of the many things that I enjoy about my backyard here in Southern California are the fruit trees. We have one lemon tree and 5 orange trees. There is nothing like fresh citrus, whether it be for juicing, cooking or just plane eating.

Now with the warmer weather heading our way I am hoping to get my new raised garden planters that Hubby has generously offered to build, and hopefully soon (?). One of my all time favorite summer foods, and I tend to plant way to many, however I just love the variety are TOMATOES. I hear if you eat to many you might just turn a shade of red, LOL, who knows this just might be true. Enjoy your day!

Its all in a Display

I LOVE it when a display comes together. I usually go to the store first thing Sunday morning. That gives me time over the weekend to price my items and to have hubby help me load em' up. This trip to the store required both of us. I had some heavier items that I could not manage on my own. And being the ever helpful person that he is, he was all to happy to help, LOL.

One of my favorite items was the laundry basket on wheels, and of course no sooner did I finish the display then someone had purchased it. Although I was sad to see my display go, it is a compliment that keeps me going. When people like what you buy, how you display and then purchase items, it is an AWESOME feeling and I thank you!

Snow days!

We don't get many 'SNOW' days here is Southern California, however when we know there is going to be A LOT of snow somewhere, we take one!

Scoop and hubby did just that. Here they are in Big Bear or there abouts.

Enjoying an off leash day in the wilderness. Tasting snow, catching snow balls and running free.

However, when his name was called he turned his handsome face towards the camera with those mesmerizing eyes that said...I love you and thanks for taking me to the snow OR don't bother me right now I am enjoying my 'SNOW' day. You choose.

Lights, Camera, Action!

It kind of looks like we were having a raging party, however it was more like controlled chaos! lights, cameras, computers, actors, make-up, props, food, generators and more. Are backyard was taken over for a film shoot!!

Originally the students of Chapman University wanted our backyard from 3 pm to 3 am, ugh...couldn't do that on a Sunday ( of course this was Super Bowl Sunday), so we settled on 1 to 1 however it was more like 2am before they finally left. And if you have read my previous post, you will know that we had a house full of guests that weekend. So on top of everything we did get a good nights sleep and were bright eyed and bushy tailed for work the next day.

We enjoyed being able to help these students out on their thesis film project and hopefully we will get to see the end result. I wish the best to all involved and who knows, there might be a future STAR in the making.

Crystal Cross bottles

this is how it all started....we had family (on hubby's side) visiting from out of town this Superbowl weekend. OK, they arrived Friday afternoon, we hung out indoors because of the rain, went to dinner, came home and hung out some more. Now it is Saturday, still raining, still indoors, hum... I think I will start wrapping crystals and creating bottles. Once that step is finished I can go out to my studio (the garage) for an hour or so and have 'quiet' time with my soldering iron. PERFECT. Just what I need to rejuvenate the senses for more visiting indoors during the rain!

So, these are a few things that I created. I definitely enjoyed my quiet time in the garage. I feel the soldering iron and I bonded and together we created some beautiful bottles, ( I was tempted to keep the Madonna bottle, but the collection looked so good together I could not separate them. Hopefully there will be another Madonna in my future). However, they are all now for sale at Country Roads Antiques .

Vintage Jewelry

I do like recycled and re purposed jewelry. It has such style and flair. New to my case this week Silver 'ware' earrings and bracelets. Simple fabulous ! I have also added some more Typewriter bracelets, necklaces and earrings and along the creative path I have made initial necklaces. I find it so odd when checking out blogs to find a photo of oneself. Yep you heard me, that's me, flowing hair pretty pink dress, dancing happily with a garland of flowers. LOL. Sure you could stay home and get things done, but after a day of that you might be itching to get out, I know I would be. As I sit here on this Friday afternoon thinking about what to write and what photos to include I am blank. However, today I have to reflect back upon the time Scoop and I spent with a 1st grade class. We read a book and did a craft, all dog related of course. So then I got to thinking about dogs, and photos of... Well, here we go, I now have a subject and I happen to have some fabulous photos that I took during the holidays that I would like to share with you. I have to say, there is nothing like the love of an animal and the love that you can give to an animal. Just take a peek at these canine companions.

Finding the unique and unusual is something I like to do during the hoidays for certain people. Sure you can go to Target, Old Navy and Marshalls, some of my favorite haunts, however for that gift that says "yah, I know you like vintage" Country Roads Antiques in Old Towne Orange is the place to find that gift AND if you can't find that special item, they offer gift certificates!! It is beginnig to feel a little like Chritmas around here. When Scoop and I got home from a day of fun, we found this stocking hanging from our mail box. Low and behold it was a Scoop stocking with a present inside. Of course I gave him his stocking and gift. He demolished his gift and was working on the stocking until I took it away. It took a lot of coaxing for him to lay with his stocking (and not take off with it). In the end Mommy always wins (or does she?)

while at a dog show a while back to check out my friends puppies , I spotted the cutest couple, no pun intended, so camera in hand I took a photo. I am guessing that she is a junior handler and lucky for her that she can get away with wearing such an outfit, can you picture an adult wearing that? OMG! would be the first thing out of my mouth. Not sure how she did in the show ring, however my vote was with her simple for the coordinating outer wear!!

Knott's Berry Farms

One of the best things about being a certified therapy dog team through the Delta Society is that you are invited to training sessions or continuing education as I like to call them. This weekend Scoop and I participated in bus training with the OCTA. We were able to board, ride and exit the bus along with many other dog teams. A bonus that was offered and I was unaware of, was the chance to go into Knott's Berry Farms amusement park for free. Wow! what a great training place, so in we went. Of course since I was unaware of this opportunity one of the first things I did was to purchase a disposable camera because who knows if we will ever get the chance to do this again and I didn't think to bring my digital camera (note to self don't leave home w/o it...again). We cruised the theme park and then on the way out I had this brilliant idea to get our photo taken in the old time gallery, just like I did when I was a kid. The staff was thrilled to have us, this was the first time they had taken a photo with a dog. As you can tell from the photo we were a happy western duo!

Scoop's Adventures

In Scoop's 2 years with me & my hubby, he has been on several camping trips with hubby, the latest being to Red's Meadow in the Eastern Sierras near Mammoth where the two of them were part of a support group for friends hiking the John Muir trail. Scoop enjoyed 3 days up in the mountains with several small hikes. Being the trip documentor, I think hubby did a great job of capturing Scoop and the places he visited, such as Rainbow Falls, where everyone enjoyed a little water time.

As luck would have it, our house happens to be in the flight path for the John Wayne Airport. When we purchased our house from the previous owners on a sunny afternoon. We were all sitting on the pool decking signing the contract when this was mentioned, however, we were in a euphoric state of buying a really cool home so we thought nothing of it. It's not a bad thing, in the case of the above photo, my husbands cousin who happens to be a pilot for Southwest airlines was flying into Orange County. So at a certain time my husband got out his camera and started taking photos of the Southwest planes going into OC, well at 3:05 pm he caught his cousins plane. Now the cool thing about this is that his cousin totally dug the photo. I guess he rarely sees the underside of the plane that he is flying...hee hee!

Vintage Cowboy boots

The other day I came across a pair of vintage Roy Rogers kids cowboy boots, which I purchased of course. Well that got me to thinking about my own pairs of vintage cowboy boots. I dusted them off and took what I could hold in my arms out to the backyard. When they spilled out of my arms onto the grass I kind of liked the look, hence the photo.

I like the star burst pattern on the front of these Acme boots. I have worn these in the past and should probably think about putting them on this season. However, they are not the most comfortable but they offer vintage style at its best. Below are the Roy Rogers kids boots, take a close look, do you see the steers head?

Vintage cowboy boots, vintage childs garden rocker, old rail road ties, end of the season tomatoe plants, it all says country life to me. Kind of funny since I live in the middle of a city. I guess my heart longs to be some place else?
